MUZAFFARABAD: The Legislative Assembly on Sunday elected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz nominee Raja Farooq Haider as new prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
During the voting under the supervision of Legislative Assembly Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir, Haider secured 38 votes out of total 48 votes. Chaudhry Yasin of the Pakistan People’s Party and Devan Ghulam Mohiuddin of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secured five votes each.
In his post-election speech, Haider said that merit, good governance and zero tolerance towards corruption were most important aspects of his policy. He said that he would highlight the plight of the people of Indian-Held Kashmir and freedom of Kashmir would be his top priority. Earlier, MLA Ahmad Raza Qadri moved a resolution to condemn the Indian atrocities in Kashmir.
