Number of dengue cases has risen in Tharparkar during last few days while authorities have difference of opinion on the existence of outbreak.
According to Dr Masood Solangi, head of Dengue Prevention & Control Program, Health Department Sindh there were eleven cases were reported from Chachro taluka (sub-district) during last one week time.
“All affected persons were working in Karachi and had carried dengue virus with them. Once they sick inKarachi they preferred to move to back to their villages.
According to Dr Solangi, all patients were shifted to Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Hyderabad. Later on all were discharged.
However according to District Health Officer Tharparkar Dr Chandar Lal, there were 22 positive cases reported in last one month. Out of them 16 belonged to Chachro while some belonged to Islamkot area also, he added.
However on contrary to Dr Solangi, he confirmed the presence of larva in the area.
“In my opinion, the reason behind spreading of dengue in water-scarcity area is because of presence of larva in water tanks after monsoon rains,” Dr Chandar added.
Health officials said there was comprehensive fumigation service in the area. Besides that mosquito nets have also been provided.
On contrary, locals have said that number of dengue affected people is much higher than authorities claim. “For instance there were 25 cases reported only in Chachro during last week time only,” said local Ghulam Rasool Junejo. Apart from it Mithi is affected where 10 cases have been reported, he said.
According to Junejo, authorities were careless despite various complains and there was no mosquito-killer fumigation spray by authorities. He blamed that health department were invisible despite the alarming situation.
