ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s for, what he called, his non-democratic mindset.
In reaction to the prime minister’s speech delivered on the occasion of inauguration of a power plant in Punjab, the PTI chief said that Nawaz Sharif’s non-democratic mindset had revealed itself once again when he declared people would do his ehtesab (accountability).
In multiple tweets, he said that this twisted logic was a negation of democracy.
“People elect their representatives and expect them to be accountable before the law. People do not expect those they elect to abuse the law with impunity,” he said.
He said that Islamic and Western democratic traditions both state that everyone was accountable and equal before the law of the land.
“Nawaz Sharif whining about development being impeded because he is being investigated for corruption should know development is damaged because of corruption,” he tweeted.
