QUETTA: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan has filed a reference with the accountability court against nine officers of Communication and Works (C&W) Department and Accountant General office.
A spokesman of NAB said on Thursday that the accused Iftikhar Ali, the C&W section officer was arrested, as he in connivance with other co-accused issued appointment letters and subsequently initiated salaries of employees in BPS-01 to BPS-14, violating the prescribed rules. The illegally appointed employees received salaries of Rs 174 million causing massive loss to the national kitty, he said. He said the facts and evidences showed that the appointed candidates were not appeared in any test or interview and selected by violating the prescribed rules of advertisement and fair selection. The spokesman said that investigation revealed that all the bogus appointment letters were signed by Iftikhar Ali, the former C&W section officer (General), who was arrested by NAB Balochistan. The bogus appointment documents were accepted by respective Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of C&W Department and forwarded to officials of Accountant General Office who in connivance with each other, initiated their salaries on the basis of salary forms without verifying and authenticating any credentials of the incumbents, the NAB spokesman said.
He said that these bogus appointed employees received salaries of almost Rs 174 million from the government of Balochistan which is a great loss to the public exchequer. He said DDOs stopped the salaries of some bogus appointed employees during the course of investigations by NAB.
After completion of investigations into alleged illegal appointments of 368 employess in C&W Department, he said NAB filed a reference in the Accountability Court, Quetta against Iftikhar Ali (ex-section officer), Noorul Haq (ex-XEN Gas division), Noor Zaman Kakar (ex-XEN Maintenance Division) of C&W Department Quetta, Senior Auditor Ejaz Ahmed Durrani, Assistant Accounts Officer Sikandar Alam, Accounts Officer Muhammad Hussain, Senior Auditor Shahid Ahmed, Assistant Accounts Officer Abdul Rasool and Accounts Officer Abbas Raza of AG Office, Quetta.
